Big event coming up? Perfect. In need a quick beauty boost? Perfect. Either way, dermaplaning is the way to go.
What is dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is a gentle exfoliation skin treatment that is excellent for all types of skin.
There is no downtime, so many of our clients at Belle Meade Dermatology Skin & Laser Center like to get dermaplanes right before a big event or as maintenance between medical-grade peels or laser procedures. As we age, our skin doesn't turn over as quickly. Dermaplaning promotes the turnover of the skin, making it appear smoother and brighter – glowing, if you will.
How do you do it?
A #10 medical scalpel is used to "shave" away dead skin cells and vellus hair. The skin is first cleansed and dried, and then the aesthetician places the scalpel at a slight angle and passes it over the skin several times in a smooth motion.
You use a scalpel to scrape the face. Does it hurt?
Not at all! The patient feels a mild scraping. If someone is very sensitive, the aesthetician will adjust and use a lighter touch. We always ask for feedback and encourage communication.
I heard it's also called a micro peel? Is it really a peel?
Well, we are manually "exfoliating" the skin, but you will not see any peeling afterward. So there is no downtime. It is the original "lunchtime peel." You can go out to lunch and go back to work looking fabulous! At Belle Meade Dermatology Skin & Laser Center, we can customize a treatment more specific for the client's needs by applying either a lactic or salicylic acid after the dermaplane. We call this a "micro peel."
What are the benefits of dermaplaning?
It helps the skin look and feel smoother and brighter, and your products will penetrate making them more effective. It is especially good for people who have a lot of red in their skin as it does not break delicate capillaries like microdermabrasion does. Makeup artists encourage their clients to get dermaplanes or micro peels a couple days prior to events because the skin is much smoother and makeup sets nicely because we remove the vellus hair from the face.
How often should I get one?
Once a month is recommended for the best results.
How much does it cost?
Prices range from $95-$175, depending on if you would like only the "dermaplane" or "micro peel."
Is there any downtime?
No, it's a great maintenance procedure for busy lifestyles.
Can you wear makeup immediately afterward?
You can, although if you wait at least a few hours your skin will be happier.
There you have it. A fuzz-free face. A dewy glow. Cell turnover with anti-aging benefits. All this over lunch? Yes. Call for an appointment at our Skin & Laser Center at 615-352-7735.
